Stiliana Alfred

Stiliana Alfred is a Brisbane and Sydney based choreographer, performer, and teacher.

Originally from Sydney, she trained in ballet and contemporary dance, where she developed an appreciation for abstract movement. Alongside her dance training, she was actively involved in acting and music, competing in theatre sports competitions.

In 2022, she moved to Brisbane to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) at the Queensland University of Technology, where she explored contemporary dance and developed her choreographic practice, graduating in 2024. During this time, she copleted the Access Route to become a Registered Royal Academy of Dance Teacher, and collaborated with her peers to create works including Hokey Pokey (2023), Business in Blush (2023), and Shifting Trend Dynamics (2024).

She was also introduced to performance art, particularly durational works, and performed in homebodies, an after-dark installation at Queensland Museum Kurilpa. This experience evolved into a creative partnership with Isabella Rose Cort, leading to collaborations on performances such as For You Sweet Girl and Hold To, a performance in response to Symbiotic Dream Girl.

Stiliana was awarded the Dance Professional Development Scholarship, receiving a grant to fund a trip to Europe, where she participated in the ImpulsTanz International Dance Festival in Vienna. There, she attended numerous performances and workshops with industry professionals, sparking new ideas for her creative work and reigniting her passion for dance and physical theatre.

Inspired by her time in Europe, she developed Perilipsi: Beyond the Shapes, which was first presented at Phluxus2’s IndepeDANCE 2024. This work explores Cubist and Surrealist art, tracing the journey of viewing an artwork—first as an observer, then delving into the stories within—blurring the boundaries between reality and imagination.

Her current practice embraces light-hearted theatricality, often emphasizing the playful and comedic aspects of performance. Through her exploration of performative realms, including durational performances and improvisation, she seeks to create an authentic connection between performer and audience.
